University releases full M’ville engineering plans: five centers, 1.1 million square feet by 2032

University President Lee Bollinger released an executive summary of the proposed Institute for Data Sciences and Engineering today, providing new details about Columbia's latest plans for the Manhattanville campus.

The summary was submitted to the city in response to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's request for proposals for a new engineering and applied science campus. It breaks down the focuses of the institute's five divisions, which will study new media, urban development, health records, Internet security, and financial data.

It also lays out a timeline for the institute—Phase I by 2022, Phase II by 2032—and estimates that the three buildings will be 1.1 million square feet. According to the summary, the institute will house 167 new faculty, 2500 total graduate students, and new degrees at the master's and doctorate level.
