For those of you who've ventured south of campus, perhaps you’ve passed by Smoke Jazz & Supper Club on Broadway between 105th and 106th streets. Perhaps you’ve even put it on your list of “Places I Really Should Check Out.” But, we all know this list gets sadly lost under piles of textbooks and papers, so it's time to put it in your planner for next weekend. Smoke offers live soul, jazz, funk, blues, and R&B, to perfectly complement a delicious weekend brunch.
We caught the “jazz brunch” set at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The lit candles and brick walls create a comfortable atmosphere---the place feels more like a living room than a bar. A smooth harmony of piano, stand-up bass, guitar, and vocals emanated from the stage and nestled into our ears as we were seated. Jazz brunch was not particularly crowded, yet every person was swaying and nodding to the soulful K.J. Denhert Band.
