Junior housing regroup, renovations at JJ's, and turnstiles at EC (finally)

Highlights from last night's meeting:

  • Junior housing regroup might be possible this spring. Option 1 allows for a Junior regroup at the end of junior suite selection, in which students will be able to double up to take the remaining suites. Option 2 would be a pair-up: Juniors could break down and choose large doubles rather than going for singles, much like Sophomores.
  • Dean of Advising and Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Dean Rinere paid a visit to the meeting to talk about CSA. She laid out three goals: Professional development of CSA staff, assessment through analysis of information gathered from focus groups last spring, and improvements in technology.
  • Rinere: “If you’re having a bad advising experience, come and see me, and I really mean it.” Students are matched to their advisor based on information from college admissions, but “If the spark is just not there, you can either try again, or you can try a different advisor” by reading other advisors’ bios and making an appointment.
  • Turnstiles at EC are finally scheduled for next summer now that the proper permits are in place.
  • John Jay dining hall is getting a new floor over Winter break, and  JJ’s Place is undergoing renovation. JJ's is a “much more intense project,” but they are hoping to have finished sketches in 3-4 weeks. It's going to be a long project, and in the meantime the hours will be transferred to Ferris.
