Date My School Escapades

Let’s face it, even though you scoff at the idea of ever using Date My School, in the darkest recesses of your I’m-too-cool/hot-for-online-dating-sites soul, you want to know what it’s like. To spare you the social stigma of being caught furtively checking out your profile to see who's been viewing yours, I endured one month of testing out Date My School—my goal: get a date by the end of one month, or perish of terminal ego deflation.

Week one:

Signing up for Date My School was pretty easy: all I had to do was type in my Columbia email address and then choose my sexual orientation. I decided to be honest and go as a woman who prefers men, but looking back, it would have been interesting to see what the site is like as a bisexual person. So sorry guys, I can’t give you any in-depth information on the choice of ladies out there. Filtering methods are pretty general; you can pick certain schools, age groups, ethnicity, etc. However, once your filters are set you can’t see anyone outside of them, just as anyone who does not fit your criteria cannot see you. After that, I filled in the personal information boxes to the best of my ability, sat back, and waited.

I got messaged a few times that week, but to tell the truth, I was beginning to doubt that I would ever find a decent person on the site if all my instant messaging conversations were going to look like this:

Random Guy: sooo ud be ok with going to bed the first date?
Me: Wait... what?
RG: no u said that
RG: not me
Me: Erm, I think I said "sure" to ice cream?
