Camila Daniels, BC '13 and Miss Virgin Islands 2011, is aiming for the Miss America title. If you've been keeping up with movies, YouTube, and television for the past couple of years, you'll know that pageants like this often get a bad rap, criticized for rewarding looks over brains and talent. But don't roll your eyes just yet. Unlike many of the other contestants vying for the crown (I dare you to watch a few of the videos), Daniels seems to value and be passionate about what the Miss America pageant is supposed to appreciate—education. In her promotional video, she talks about how music education, specifically, has shaped her own life—her skills as a flutist helped her win Miss Virgin Islands this year—and discusses the impact music education could have on the lives of countless others.
