Education as service

Finals week begs questions of an existential nature. By that I mean a lot of us can’t help but ask what, exactly, is the point of all this? It’s a fair question, and the answer had better be good enough to justify our chronic sleep deprivation.

I’m sure many of us hold onto the prospect of the career rewards of having a Columbia degree. We work hard now, we get paid more later. Or maybe it’s not the money – maybe we see value in the stress of today for the sake of prestige and power tomorrow.
