It looks like the Anthropology department won’t be offering a class on Occupy Wall Street this semester after all. As someone who thought the syllabus looked pretty boss, I’m a little bummed out, but as someone who has only an opaque understanding of the Committee on Instruction’s rules and regulations, I can’t comment too directly on the odd sequence of events that have led us to this point. I do, however, think that the course (or, rather, the almost-course) tapped into one of the aspects of the Occupy movement that makes Columbia students most uncomfortable: its efforts to promote an alternative idea of education.
