A supplemental page running every other week (the first today!), The Canon is a space dedicated to the types of very relevant, yet untimely, discussions Columbia students participate in all the time. The Core Curriculum promotes the idea that there are questions we should constantly ask. A key element of our education here is a belief in the merit of discussion itself, whether we come to a resolution or not. Though many of the questions asked of us in classes and which occupy our conversations have been the subject of thought and disagreement long before we were even born, we're still just as interested and willing to engage with them as our predecessors.
Hence, the inaugural issue of The Canon asks, “Is Columbia an American university? Should it be?"
