What you'd love about Teach For America

Alongside dozens of other Columbia seniors throughout, Ganiatu Afolabi will be working with Teach For America next year, specifically in Chicago. A senior poli-sci major in CC and the president of the BSO and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Rho Chapter, Ganiatu kindly agreed to answer some of my questions about her thoughts on next year.

RM: Tell me about what subject and age group you'll be teaching through TFA next year.

GA: I will be teaching Special Education. I haven’t been assigned to an age group yet, but I’m crossing my fingers for high school students.

RM: What made you decide to apply to TFA?

GA: I have always been really interested in education. I worked with the Double Discovery Center for my entire Columbia experience, I’ve tutored, I also did Peer Health Exchange as a freshman. I applied to TFA as opposed to other teaching fellows programs because I both appreciated the execution of the program, and its national scope.
