Under Surveillance

We decided to head out to the subway when it became clear that no one else was coming. There were at least 100 men and women at that week’s Jummah prayer, a weekly congregational prayer that the Muslim Students Association holds every Friday in the Earl Hall auditorium. But only two, Maliha Tariq, a junior at Barnard and the vice president of MSA, and Noor Siyam, a first-year at Barnard, decided to make the trek downtown to attend a rally at Foley Square that criticized the New York Police Department for ethnic profiling.
