His name is Matthew Kim, CC '15. On his path to victory he had some close games and some blowouts, squeaking by last year's defending champion, Jason Bell, in the final round.
We asked the new champion how he pulled it off.
Talk about your strategy. Was it the same from game to game, or did you mix it up depending on the opponent?
MK: Well, as far as strategy goes, I think an important part of the game (aside from playing high-scoring words, of course) is to give your opponent as few opportunities as possible. You want to make moves to minimize the chances that your opponent will be able to place tiles on double or triple words. I pretty much tried to use this strategy against all my opponents, although some of them made it more difficult than others.
