On Friday, Spectator talked to Senior Executive Vice President Robert Kasdin, who came to Columbia from the University of Michigan with University President Lee Bollinger in 2002. He is Bollinger's second-in-command, managing the University's finances and operating departments.
WikiCU says that "Few students and faculty have seen him, let alone interacted with him," although Spec usually talks to him twice a semester. Highlights from the interview:
- There's been a lot of discussion on campus the last few weeks about how Columbia will use space that is vacated in Morningside Heights by schools moving to Manhattanville. The Business School is planning to vacate Uris Hall, but Kasdin said that the School of the Arts is likely to retain some of its space in Dodge Hall. He explained that the school's new building will largely provide "public spaces" like art galleries and performances spaces, and that it "doesn’t take the place of classrooms or academic offices," which it currently has in Dodge.
