The best of Hunger Games inspired YouTube videos

I’ve learned the hard way that it's not socially acceptable to sing YouTube videos in public.

The first time was with the classic hit “Hamster on a Piano.” I was in an excellent mood, having just spent a solid hour hanging out with one of the few pals I have who appreciates animal songs as much as I do, and the only logical thing to do was express my joy with a song. A song that came from the soul.

You would’ve thought that the stares from the girls on my floor would have kept me from making the same mistake twice, but the other day I caught myself, once again, embarrassing myself by singing a YouTube classic at a level that is usually reserved for Superbowl halftime shows. The location this time was the Barnard tunnels. The song? “Lana Del Rey’s Hunger Games.”

I know I should’ve learned my lesson the first time around. But this YouTube parody is so catchy that I can’t get it out of my head. Especially winning is the line at 1:41 - “I don’t want Peeta to be dead / a pita is a pouch of bread / but that’s his name.”

This woman just gets me.
