Scout's Honor

In the 100 years since the founding of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, there is no doubt that the world women and girls inhabit has changed dramatically. At the time of its inception, founder Juliette Low and her contemporaries roused indignation simply by organizing events that took girls out of the domestic sphere and allowed them—gasp!—to go hiking. Although the specific issues are not the same, the Girl Scouts continue to have a highly visible role in the ongoing debate on women’s social issues.
