Did you ever consider majoring in the humanities? What about the sciences? Did you have to choose? Well, if you've ever wanted to major in the humanities and premed but not do two full majors, here's something that will interest you.
In today's Spectator, Parul Guliani writes about the introduction of a new major, "medicine, literature, and society." Offered through the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, the new major provides a novel option for those willing to combine studies in the arts and sciences.
The major, “medicine, literature, and society,” is an interdisciplinary course of study that “examines the social and cultural dimensions of illness and health,” according to the ICLS website. The major is similar to the existing comparative literature and society major in that it requires literature and culture courses in a language other than English, as well as courses in the humanities that correspond to a student’s chosen area of specialization.
But it's not just for premed majors. It's being mentioned as a potential program for students interested in global health, the politics of health, ecology, or environmental studies
