Let's talk about apologies. For a while, they seemed pretty straightforward. Those guiding us through our childhood and adolescence alerted us to our rights and our wrongs, and for the latter we had to apologize. Simple enough.
Pull someone's hair during recess? Sorry. Steal your sibling's stuffed animal? Sorry. Get into a fender bender because you were texting? Sorry. Sure, they're all on vastly different scales of wrongdoing, but regardless, there's no doubt that a "sorry" is in order.
But I've got a theory: We're apologizing too much. Well, some of us at least.
