This week in CCSC: The Habbu era begins

The Columbia College Student Council held its first meeting of the year earlier tonight, led by its new president, Karishma Habbu, CC '13. Curious about what the council was up to this summer? Wondering what you can expect from the council this year? Lillian Chen brings you the highlights from the meeting:

Rock the vote: This summer, CCSC partnered with the Columbia Political Union, the Columbia University College Republicans, the Columbia University Democrats, Residential Life, and the other student councils to create Turbovote, an online platform for voter registration. Turbovote makes voting easier for students by helping them register to vote, keep track of deadlines, and mail important forms. Students can sign up at columbia.turbovote.org.

Queer studies: CCSC Vice President of Policy Will Hughes, CC ’13, is working with Columbia Queer Alliance and Gender Revolution to start a queer studies department. They’re looking first at creating a concentration offered through the Women and Gender Studies Department, and later expanding the concentration to a major.

Expanding flex: The council's policy committee will be working to expand the list of Flex-accepting eateries this year, since it’s “actually really, really easy to add a vendor to the list,” Hughes said. The committee wants to get Joe the Art of Coffee and Oren’s Daily Roast added.
