With their first meeting of the semester behind them, members of the Columbia College Student Council have started discussing business and structure for this year. Rakhi Agrawal reports from last night's meeting:
Funding proposals: CCSC Vice President of Finance Daphne Chen, CC ’14, unveiled two new proposed funding programs for students: the Travel Fund and the Capital Investment Fund. The Travel Fund is intended to support student groups traveling to compete at the national level (sports teams, mock trial teams, etc.). The Capital Investment Fund, on the other hand, will be for student groups that have trouble securing funding for large-scale overhauls of their equipment or supplies (for instance, new televisions for Columbia TV, or new kayaks to replace unsafe ones for Columbia Kayaking). Council members suggested amendments to the caps and applications processes in Chen's proposal, and she will unveil the final resolutions next week for a vote.
Apply to liaise: According to CCSC President Karishma Habbu, CC ’13, the council has received very few applications for its liaison positions (Vice President of Policy Will Hughes, CC ’13, said there were four applications in total.)
No spotsleft: The council's election board, on the other hand, is now full. Eric Wei, CC ’16, stopped by to run for the final open spot on the elections board, becoming the board’s fifth and final member.
First-years: On a related note, CCSC announced the class of 2016 council candidates today. See a full list of candidates after the jump.
