Last night, the Columbia College Student Council passed its first resolutions of the semester. The News Desk's Rakhi Agrawal reports:
Events, events, events: Each class council gave an update on its initiatives. Class of 2013 President Ryan Mandelbaum proudly reported that the first two senior class events, Lerner Pub and a concert, were largely successful, and that two more senior events are planned, including an upcoming talk by SIPA professor Gary Okihiro and another Lerner Pub. Class of 2014 President Conan Cassidy said that the junior class’s “Breakfast in Bed” bagel deliveries also went off without a hitch.
More money on the way: The council unanimously passed resolutions approving two new funds for student groups---the Travel Fund and the Capital Investment Fund, both of which the council had discussed last week. The Travel Fund, which is being capped at $8,000, will allow recognized student groups to apply to the Joint Council Co-Sponsorship Committee for traveling costs that might otherwise "be prohibitively high due to transportation, hotel, and registration fees." The $15,000 approved for the Capital Investment Fund will be allocated every October by the JCCC, and will be distributed to groups who are "unable to finance necessary purchases due to the high-cost nature of their activities."
