Before I begin another rant against political correctness, let me first admit that it mostly stems from frustration over not having today off. I am convinced that even the most ardent of anthropology/ethnic studies double majors would appreciate having Columbus Day off, even if they won’t admit to it.
That being said, I now find myself in the awkward position of writing a post in defense of what may be both my favorite and least favorite group on campus—the Columbia University College Republicans. God bless them—and I use that in the secular, colloquial sense—they’re the only people standing up for our right as Americans to sleep in on the second Monday of October to honor the sometimes genocidal, always lovable Christopher Columbus.
