A dose of the 'Muslim Protagonist'

On Saturday, the Muslim Students Association sponsored the Muslim Protagonist, a day-long symposium attended by Muslim academics, writers, and playwrights. Neha Sundaram reported on the event in today's paper, explaining that the purpose was to present Muslim voices and identities that are unfortunately underrepresented in or missing from Western media and arts, as well as from the Columbia curriculum.

Even if you were not able to make it to the symposium, there's no reason not to check out the plethora of Muslim speakers who contributed.

Here is just a sampling of videos featuring some of the presenters, but there really is more where that came from. Click here for the list of writers featured at the symposium, and consider adding some of their books to your inevitable list of winter break reading list (we all have one).

Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, author of Green Deen: What Islam Teaches Us About the Planet, makes connections between environmentalism and religious unity.
