This week in ESC: Guest speakers galore

After missing a few meetings due to Hurricane Sandy and fall break, the Engineering Student Council was back Monday night. Curious about what’s going on with the new residence hall? Want to know where you can get a free ESC beanie? Lillian Chen brings you the highlights from last night’s meeting:

Sherry Hour: Sasha Stedronsky, BC ’15, is looking to hold events for professors and students from all Columbia schools to mingle with one another in an informal atmosphere. Stedronsky presented to ESC in hopes of getting some representatives to join the Sherry Hour Committee. The first of what the committee hopes will be many Sherry Hours will be hosted during reading week in December and sponsored by Barnard President Debora Spar.

Convent house: After hosting a poorly attended town hall, Cristen Kromm, assistant dean for community development and residential programs, is now asking the councils for advice on how to structure the new 113th Street residence hall, which is replacing a former convent. The three interconnected brownstones will have five floors and 78 beds each, and while the residence hall will be launched as housing for special interest communities, Kromm sought feedback on how many SICs should live in one building and whether the buildings should be themed.
