Tracey Wang has all the action from last night's meeting of Barnard's Student Government Association:
Seven Sisters: Representative for College Relations Rachel Ferrari, BC '13, discussed the Seven Sisters Conference on women's education that took place over fall break, which 11 Barnard students attended. Ferrari suggested further collaboration between the Seven Sisters schools, proposing that each school create a local council of three to five students to act as liaisons on their respective colleges, allowing students who are not necessarily involved in student government to participate. Ferrari said she hopes to plan and host a conference for members of these smaller councils in the spring.
Club rules: SGA representatives reviewed their by-laws for clubs, particularly the rule concerning the recognition of clubs that stem from national organizations. Currently, Barnard chapters of national political organizations are not recognized by SGA, and representatives said they do not want student life fees going toward clubs that would use the funding to pay dues to the national chapter. They also raised questions about what would qualify as a political organization. SGA decided to table most of the discussion until next week, though.
