Everyone calm down. We all love Christmas time, but I am seeing holiday cheer around campus and on all over Facebook WAY too soon. Here are a few reasons why you should chill out for now:
Thanksgiving: You guys, starting to talk about Christmas now is just plain RUDE to Thanksgiving. It's already got the short straw because it isn't on the same day every year, and it doesn't have any of its own songs (until now, that is). Thanksgiving also has lost pretty much all of its hype to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which are both part of the Christmas machine. Can we just focus on the food for now?
I can't avoid your cheer: You might say, "Katie, just don't put up your decorations yet. Don't listen to Christmas carols until after Thanksgiving. Don't buy Christmas themed items yet." I would love it if that were possible. But I can't really make someone take off their Christmas pajamas or make stores take down their premature decorations or make the radio in those stores play tunes lacking sleigh bells. Even the ads on Hulu have got me. Walgreen's is even putting sleigh bells into "Down On the Corner" in its commercials, a horror for which I truly have no words.
