This week in SGA: Honorably green

At Monday night’s meeting of Barnard's Student Government Association, the representatives discussed a new program to help transfer students integrate into campus life, ways to expand the presence of Barnard’s Honor Board, and a proposal to install hand dryers in Barnard bathrooms. Emma Goss reports:

  • Teaming up with transfers: Community development representative Winn Periyasamy, BC ’13, and SGA vice president Julia Kennedy, BC ’13, presented information on their new Transfer Ambassadors Program, which is designed to help transfer students integrate into campus life by pairing them with personal student ambassadors. • Honor to us all: Student representatives from Barnard’s Honor Board discussed ways to work with SGA to forge a greater campus presence for Barnard’s honor code. JungHee Hyun, BC ’13 and SGA president, said that students should be reminded of the honor code, which they recite during Convocation, throughout their time at Barnard. “I think something that the school lacks is something that extends beyond the first years,” Hyun said. A Columbia College Student Council representative who attended the meeting said he would like to establish dialogue between Barnard’s Honor Board and CCSC to implement a similar code  for Columbia students.
