Jingle Bell Rock: Meet XMAS!7 co-composer Andrew Wright

With the dread of Christmas musical specials with the same tired, old songs, it is time for catchy new tunes to revamp the holiday spirit. Spectator talked to Andrew Wright, CC '14 one of two composers of the student-written holiday musical “XMAS!7: ApocaChristmas,” about the process of working with the cast and fellow songsmith Ben Russell, CC ’13.

The performance will fittingly take place on the last day of classes, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the Roone Arledge Auditorium. Tickets are $2 with CUID.

Josephine McGowan: How did you get involved with composing music?

AW: I’ve been playing piano since I was about four, so I grew up in a very musical family. My dad was a percussion musician and so was my mom. I started composing in high school and I have been involved in theater for over a decade. It has been a personal due of mine to actually compose a show, so when I saw that the XMAS!7 cast was looking for a composer, I was really excited to get started working with them.

Q: What interested you in the XMAS!7 concept and how did you start working with the cast?
