Notes and Keys' final exam: VH1

Notes and Keys, Columbia’s oldest a cappella group, performed twice on VH1 for its first-ever televised performance Friday.

And, in typical finals week fashion, the singers had to arrange and learn their two numbers—“Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and a mash-up of holiday songs from “Pitch Perfect” (which starred Columbian Ben Platt, who is on leave while performing in the national tour of "The Book of Mormon") in under two days.

Jon Perkins, CC '15 and a soloist in the show, told us in an email, “I had pulled an all-nighter studying for CC before the performance, then had to take my CC final right after, so it wasn’t necessarily an average Friday.”

Neither was the act that NAK had to follow.

“That was the same show that Bon Jovi was performing,” NAK president Esme Levy, CC ’15, said. “We didn’t really get to meet him, but we saw him from afar.”
