An ode to Broadway's former gems

Oh, how times have changed since I first moved into the welcoming arms of Morningside Heights.

In addition to helping me plan my senior wisdom a year in advance, the recent liquidations/indefinite closures/transformations of various neighborhood mainstays have got me feeling a little nostalgic and a little sad.

First, the beloved Cardomat has closed its doors for good. I never thought the day would come when I couldn’t buy cheap cards and an assortment of semi-useless trinkets for my frenemies’ birthdays!

In all seriousness, whenever a business closes I really do feel for the owners. Can you imagine? You spent your life building a carefully constructed card/semi-useless trinket store, and one day it all comes crashing down around you. Sad.

I wouldn’t mind it if they put in something a little more exciting though, like a Panera or a Popeye’s (clearly my priorities are food-based).
