If you haven't heard Nathan Chan, CC '15, take ordinary pop tunes and turn them into incredible cello performances, you are in a shrinking minority of YouTube viewers. In fact, his most recently posted video, a cover of "Clocks" by Coldplay, has received over 2,000 views in just three days.
A member of String Theory, Columbia University’s premiere cello ensemble, Chan is a pretty typical and genuine guy, listing his interests on their website as “Apple, ramen, milk tea, and super clean beds,” and admitting to a “slight obsession with social networking.”
Chan also participates in the Columbia-Juilliard exchange and won a $25,000 fellowship from the Davidson Institute last year for his mastery of the cello.
But his talent isn't confined to performances for the Columbia and Juilliard communities.
His presence on the Internet must be paying off, as Chan’s YouTube channel has over a million views and nearly six thousand subscribers.
