The Engineering Student Council held its first meeting of the semester Monday night. Wondering what the council’s planning for this semester? Want a chance to talk with the dean candidates? Lillian Chen brings you the top five highlights from the meeting:
Closing in: According to ESC President Tim Qin, SEAS’13, the dean search committee has narrowed down its list of candidates to four people, and the candidates will be meeting with both faculty and undergraduate students in the next few weeks.
SEAS spirit: ESC Vice President of Student Life Sheila Misheni, SEAS ’14, said she’s planning on revamping SEAS Week and adding many new events. Some of her ideas include a laser tag event, a big dinner with the administration, alumni, and graduate school, and of course, more food and more free shirts.
Funding and finances: Sidd Bhatt, SEAS ’14 and ESC Vice President of Finance, said that the student councils have decided who will receive money through the capital investment fund, and that decisions will be released shortly. Bhatt also pitched the idea of setting up an advisory board, which would include individuals from various engineering groups. The board would be able to act as one entity when reaching out to corporate groups, discussing issues with the council or the administration, booking space, and raising capital.
