With the end of the NFL season, baseball fans are counting down the days until the start of spring training. But America’s favorite pastime isn't all that's right around the corner---Columbia’s favorite sport is almost here too: Housing!
Okay, so not everyone may feel the same way about Housing that we do, but that’s why we’re here. The Shaft, Sprectrum’s yearly mini-blog covering all things Columbia Housing, is here to help you every step of the way. In the coming weeks, we’ll keep you up-to-date on all the important deadlines, bring you the latest Housing news, and walk you through every decision you’ll have to make.
What’s new for 2013?
New names! The whole Room Selection process is the same, but Columbia’s tried to clarify things a bit by renaming some of the steps. Suite Selection and General Selection have been replaced by In-Person Group Selection and Online Selection. We applaud these name changes---folks picking into doubles may not have realized that they were supposed to show up during Suite Selection and this clarifies things a bit.
New renovations! Housing will put up a full list of their summer renovation plans later in the semester, but the biggest changes will come in Wallach and Schapiro. In both buildings, floors 2-5 will be completely redone so that they’ll be on par with the rest of the building. Additionally, the 18th floor of EC will be renovated, as will the Schapiro lobby and Ruggles basement.
