Hungarian Pastry Shop loves its writers

Across from the delectable array of cakes, cookies, and pies at the Hungarian Pastry Shop’s counter, there are other treats on display — treats of a literary nature. No, I don’t mean the English majors working vigorously on their theses. Look a little higher. See those frames? You’re looking at the Author’s Wall, homage to the writers who have called the café their workspace, perhaps even their haven.

Philip Binioris, the Hungarian Pastry Shop’s owner, said that the Author’s Wall was started at the café’s request. “We asked a few authors we knew had written published books in the café to see if they would be willing to show their book covers on the wall. After that, it kind of snowballed,” he said. “Surprisingly, and happily, many of our customers have come up to us with book covers, requesting that we display them—many people I never even knew were writing books.”

Other covers have been received via mail from customers who have moved away and were writing at the café while they were in school or working.
