As a critic for Spectator, I have had the privilege of both watching and reviewing numerous performances -- on and off campus. However, a year into this position, I have been confronted by an obstacle: for all of my insights into the product, I had very few to offer concerning its creation.
In truth, I have never worked on a show before, never memorized lines, or played a part before crowds. Thus, to resolve the epic vacuity in my education, I have decided to watch the formation of a student performance from the inside, and I have chosen the King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe as my subject.
In this series, I hope finally to garner some true insights into how a play is created and performed so that my criticism might become more educated than before and thus serve the reader in a better fashion.
