Three optimistic Netflix movies to brighten your midterms studying

It can be hard to use procrastination time effectively. There's Facebook, tumblr, Twitter, and my personal favorite, Netflix. Each month I'll be bringing out some of my top streaming flicks that relate to campus life. Happy watching!

In the throes of midterms, it can be easy to use Netflix as shield against the trauma of studying, but sometimes this choice can result in more emotional turmoil than actually learning material would have been. These are three movies that won't leave you sitting in your dorm sobbing with a tub of ice cream---instead, they'll make you smile with the irrepressible, insane optimism of their protagonists and unlikely happy endings.

"Jeff, Who Lives at Home"

Jeff is a stoner who can’t make it out of his mother’s basement. He’s waiting for a sign to give his life meaning and motivation. His brother is busy enjoying material-based success, and his mom is bored with her job. Then Jeff receives an accidental phone call that changes his life. Jeff’s new mission is to find this man and deliver a message to him. Jeff’s misadventures drag him out of the basement into the real world and, along the way, closer to his brother. They work together to solve each other’s problems even though they’re dead certain the other is incapable of understanding them. The plot was cute and the soundtrack really improved the movie. Jason Segel warmed my heart as Jeff, and I laughed enough to wish I would receive a higher calling from a wrong number and possibly jump in a river.
