Housing: recap of day 3, preview of day 4

On Day Three of Suite Selection, the impact of yesterday’s Senior Regroup became apparent. The mixed-point groups were left to pick through the carnage, as the two-point groups ate up the medium- and low-demand Woodbridge lines, the Symposium doubles, and the Watt one-bedroom apartments, all of which were gone by the day’s close.

After everyone’s lottery numbers were published, it seemed like Woodbridge could last deep into the 20-point round. However, the elimination of the UAH apartments combined with the insane popularity of Woodbridge during Regroup meant that its cutoff was pretty much in line with the cutoff from last year.

In addition to these choice doubles, the EC Exclusion suites were also finished off today. The very first five-person group of the day dropped to General Selection, giving all but one of the 24-point groups a spot in EC. But this didn’t go down without any drama. As we mentioned during the liveblog, one of the 24-point groups was late for their appointment time, but because things were running behind schedule, they came just before the final ECX’s were taken. Regardless, it seems that the system has recalibrated itself after the elimination of the Exclusion rule. A cutoff right around 24 points seems like a safe bet for future years—last year’s cutoff of 10 points was clearly just a one-year outlier.

Finally, Day Three brought lots of large groups hoping for six- and eight-person suites. Enough of the eight-person groups dropped to leave some Ruggles eight-person suites available for tomorrow, so our new projected cutoff is 20/1542. There are also still six six-person suites left for the juniors: five in Ruggles and one in Harmony. Interestingly, none of the seven-person groups came in to claim a Claremont suite. This is excellent news for potential Regroupers tomorrow and for Claremont hopefuls of lesser point values.

So what’s on tap for tomorrow? A steady stream of Watt studio doubles will be taken since they are now the best two-person options on the board. However, I’d like to point out that one of the three-person Claremont suites has an RA who never chose his/her RA riders, leaving two singles available in that suite for anyone who is interested. We’ll also find out just how popular the new brownstone doubles are, a couple of which were taken at the end of today’s selection.

Of course, more than just groups of two have appointment times for tomorrow. The three/four/five-person groups will be out of luck, but the six/seven/eight person groups will come through to wipe Ruggles off the board. Once that’s all done, we’ll have the biggest Class of 2014 event of the year: Junior Regroup! There could literally be hundreds of juniors coming back in the hopes of avoiding General Selection. They will probably finish off the Watt studio doubles and could quite possibly take all of the remaining Claremont suites as well. What the others will do is anyone’s guess: Scattered doubles from the brownstones, Nussbaum, and McBain all seem like potential candidates. All we know for sure is that we’ll be covering it live for you, as we always do, starting at 9:30am.

So what are the chances a 10/780s group of 4 picks into the top two floors of Nussbaum?
Damn you , junior regroup!

Pretty decent, actually. Last year, if your number was any better than 10/1735, then you would have had that option. Hard to see that number getting a full 1000 worse, so I'd say you'll be okay. I guess Junior Regroup could make everything go crazy though.

Preschools often require 3 years of age and up to be fully potty trnaied. My son started preschool at 3-1/2 and was potty trnaied the summer before. We took him to school that summer and showed him where he would go potty to get him acquainted. His school told me they have an extra outfit in case of an accident and were very supportive in helping them go at the right times. Eight accidents a month is a lot, esp. in a 3-4 hour day. But if the child was potty trnaied and then having accidents again, that is normal in the process, but to then be worked with and go back and have that many, something is wrong. Maybe some methods of the school, or maybe the child feels stressed for whatever reason. Fortunately, my son is now 5 and has never had an accident at school. That is not to say that he never has an occasional accident, and I have spoken to his classmates' mothers, and they say the same thing. Last week, one little girl in his class was having so much fun at the Bounce House spirit night that she forgot to go and had an accident. That's normal. A good school will work with you on an occasional accident. Excessive accidents though are not conducive to a preschool environment with even 2 teachers and 15+ students, and perhaps staying at home or daycare would be more appropriate. For those railing against Pre-K 3, I do think mandatory preschool is absurd. But my child has benefitted tremendously from three mornings a week in preschool, esp. in his social life. My two-year old son will go two mornings a week this fall, and is with me the rest of the time (The two year old class does not require potty training). And I feel it is better than day care for those who work outside the home. So while some enjoy having their children at home the full 5 years, others gain rewards from a preschool environment. We all try to do what is best for our individual child.

Your right Claremont Conservatives. Blacks make less money and generally live in poreor conditions than white because they are less smart/not willing to succeed. But you are quick to point out your not racist. ps This was sarcasm all races are equal and every kind of person can be found in any race. A lot of "conservatives" don't even know any black people very well. Were all human beings living in this world so get over it. You would want equality too if you were black. Try walking in someone elses shoes for a change

We'll try to confirm this tomorrow morning, but I believe it's on the 6th floor. No guarantees though.
