Barnard announced its Junior Phi Beta Kappa initiates for the class of 2017 on Tuesday.
Phi Beta Kappa is regarded as one of the most prestigious academic honor societies for undergraduate students. No more than 10 percent of a college’s graduating class may be initiated into Phi Beta Kappa, and the top two percent of the senior class are announced first in the fall semester as Junior Phi Beta Kappa.
Students do not apply for consideration but are instead elected by faculty members who are themselves members of Phi Beta Kappa. The decision is based on a student’s academic record and faculty recommendations.
The list of initiates, who will be inducted in the spring, can be found below. The remainder of the class of 2017 Phi Beta Kappa inductees will be announced later in the spring.
