Two brain tumors nearly killed Bronx resident Deborah Brown. Rendered unable to speak, walk, or interact with others, she had to relearn all basic tasks. She attributes her full recovery to a team of surgeons, and hopes that her 14-year-old son will become a doctor and help people like her.

In a small survey of the students in my Waste Management class at Barnard, every person claimed to believe in the importance of recycling. However, only 40 percent of those same participants actually recycle all of their recyclable waste. Why is there such a disparity?
