This was not how the regular season was supposed to end for the Columbia women’s soccer team. After a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Princeton on Oct. 18, Columbia had rebounded with two consecutive conference wins.

Harvard quarterback Chris Pizzotti didn’t flinch as trainers snapped his dislocated pinky finger back in place. The fifth-year senior trotted back on the field and continued to pick on the Columbia secondary in the Lions’ 42-28 loss on Saturday.

Saturday was a record-breaking day for the Harvard football team (7-1, 4-1 Ivy), as its offense had extreme amounts of success, especially in the passing game. That success, however, came at the expense of the Columbia football team (1-7, 1-4 Ivy) as the Lions fell, 42-28, at Harvard Stadium.

I typically spend my Saturday afternoons serving as the studio host at WKCR 89.9 FM during Columbia Lions football games. This weekend, after yet another Columbia loss, I sat in the broadcast studio with my colleagues, and our collective dissatisfaction was palpable.
