It is one of entertainment’s greatest ironies that a comedy can be construed out of Nazi Germany’s conquest through Europe. In 1942, a film entitled To Be or Not Be (the film on which this play is based) opened in theaters gleefully poking fun at the Nazi invasion of Poland.
