The Columbia cross country teams competed in their second meet of the season this weekend at the George Mason Invitational. The Lions came in second place in both the men’s and women’s races, continuing what has been a strong start to the 2008 season.

It was another tough set of matches for the Columbia volleyball team, which fell this weekend to Long Island University and Cornell. The Light Blue is now 5-6 overall and 0-2 in Ivy League play this season.

After falling to Princeton 3-2 on Friday, the Columbia field hockey team was able to bounce back in its second home game this weekend to beat Sacred Heart University, 6-1, on Sunday.

While its fifth consecutive win did not come as easily as the previous four had, the Columbia women’s soccer team triumphed over Ivy foe Brown, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday night.

It was one of those plays that, if it had worked, it would have been a great decision, but since it didn’t, ended up being the decision that might have cost the Columbia football team a chance to beat Princeton on Saturday.

Down by three with 1:32 left in the game, sophomore Mike Stephens caught a screen pass and ran seven yards to the Princeton 32—but linebacker Scott Britton put his shoulder down and popped the ball loose. Princeton recovered and iced the game to win, 27-24.
