My bracket was one UCLA turnover away from suffering a most miserable and cruel death that I wouldn’t wish upon any rational sports fan. Still, it wasn’t really much of an entry, as I was unexpectedly wrecked by A.J. Price’s torn ACL (I’m a UConn homer). That’s just the way the Big Dance works.

Columbia’s official athletics Web site reports that Paul Fernandes, the associate athletics director for intercollegiate sports programs and former Columbia head baseball coach, will retire after working in the University’s athletic department for 31 years.

Through the first 22 games of the season, Columbia’s softball team has posted a 9-13 record. Its nonconference schedule thus far has featured road trips to Alabama, Maryland, and a 14-game marathon in Kissimmee, Fla. over spring break.
