The women's swimming and diving team passed a crucial early test by winning their season opener over Yale at Uris Swim Center on Friday night, 161-139. The Bulldogs are one of the three teams the Lions will likely battle for third place at the season-ending Ivy Championships.

ITHACA, NY-There's no doubt that this has been the toughest season of Bob Shoop's tenure at Columbia. The 2-7, 0-6 Ivy Lions have been slammed by conference competition in Shoop's third year. Last year's 1-9, 1-6 Ivy squad at least managed to stay competitive in many of its league games.

A few weeks ago, word started spreading that New York's alternative rock radio powerhouse, KROCK, would be switching to a format that favors more talk than music come next year. I've never been a huge listener, but I can recognize how tragic such a shift would be.
