Director Chris Columbus's film adaptation of the Broadway musical Rent attempts simultaneously to remain true to its source and to create something entirely new. Had Columbus committed wholeheartedly to either endeavor, it probably would have been a film worth seeing.

Heavy metal is about as far from light and bouncy as music gets. Full of lightning-fast power chords, thundering bass drums, and riffs to give listeners concussions, it's music more conducive to head-banging than hip-shaking.
