Cornell forced Columbia into a game of follow-the-leader on Saturday, and though the Lions struggled to catch up, the Big Red escaped with a 70-65 win. Columbia (11-4, 0-3 Ivy) started out strong, taking an 11-4 lead in the first few minutes.

Fencing co-head coach Aladar Kogler held up a small red sign just before the start of the 2006 NYU Invitational on Sunday that read, "I can." In the end, it was the women who could, but the men, despite extremely close individual bouts, drew a losing record on the day.

It was a fitting ending for a wild night, a back-and-forth struggle of one player in the midst of struggle between two teams. It was as good as over, with two free throws falling out, giving Cornell a chance at victory.
