We Columbians may like to think of ourselves as New Yorkers, but nothing smacks of the city quite like New York University. While we claim to be "in the City of New York," the true essence of Manhattan is in the Village.

It's not new to most Columbians, but now it's a cold, hard statistic: a survey of 267 undergraduates released yesterday by the Columbia College and Engineering student councils indicated that most students are dissatisfied with Wien Food Court and would like to see new options.

The New Year's holiday has never worked for me. During my best New Year's Eve, I kicked a hole through a door and then punched another hole through a wall, for reasons that made sense at the time. Last year I spent New Year's Eve on a plane to Hong Kong.

The sheer number of legal steps Columbia must go through in order to gain city approval for Manhattanville expansion makes it all too easy to ignore the seemingly boring bureaucratic preliminaries.

One of the primary complaints of students (especially first-years) on this campus is the terrible pricing and availability of on-campus food. The student body is being grossly overcharged for substandard products.

This Friday will mark the end of registration period, a semi-annual mad dash of overcrowded classrooms, frantic summations of credits earned and credits needed to graduate (don't forget the swim test!), and late-night CULPA searches.
