In this week's New Yorker, Anthony Lane asserts Denzel Washington as the main reason to see Inside Man. Outside of the previews, I haven't really seen the movie yet, but I disagree with Lane on general principle.

Drawing Restraint 9 is a film that insists on being viewed on its own terms. There is only one scene of dialogue over the course of its two hour and 15 minute running time, and the cast consists principally of the real crew of a Japanese factory whaling ship.

Laia Marull can cry. Her performance in the 2003 Spanish film Take My Eyes, a harshly realistic portrayal of modern domestic violence, certainly proves that.

Are you tired of watching movies from Third World countries that guilt you into reluctant submission? If so, see Fernando Eimbcke's Duck Season with impunity. It's from Mexico, but the film bucks the poverty and crime stereotypes often associated with Mexican cinema.
