Mmmm, Low steps. Sweet, sweet, Low steps. When the sun starts a-shining, I can't imagine a finer place. As I perch on the steps in the spring, I feel warmth beyond temperature. I feel a distinct happiness that makes me forget all my woes and all my classes.

This weekend, the Columbia lightweight varsity crew boat raced against the fastest boat in the country and almost won. So far this season, the Lions' lightweight crew program has been proving itself to be among the top in the country by holding its own against the nation's strongest teams.

The Columbia baseball team charged into its first game on Saturday eager to keep their hopes of winning the Lou Gehrig Division alive. Both the Red Rolfe and Lou Gehrig divisions of the Ivy League had only one game separating the first- and last-place teams.

This weekend's home series against the struggling Princeton Tigers offered Columbia a chance not only to take control of the Lou Gehrig Division, but also to establish the team in the Ivy League for the season. Neither, however, came close to happening.

Columbia softball hung tight with powerhouse Princeton for one game on Saturday before the Tigers pulled away in Game 2. After the Lions left Princeton with two losses, they set off to the University of Pennsylvania with frustration to vent.
