In America, World War II made its way pretty quickly into cinema, resulting in portrayals of fascism that dripped with buffoonery and movie-villain cliches (just think of Casablanca or The Sound of Music) or outright comedy (the very daring Stalag 17 or, a bit later, The Producers).

Satire is a fickle and delicate beast to tame. When done poorly, it can be painful and uncomfortable. In more able hands, however, it has the ability to provoke discussions, engage thoughts, and even outlast its immediate, contemporary relevancy.

A recent episode of South Park featured a parody of large music festivals in which a character says, "We're using the power of rock and roll to change the world!" While easy to make fun of such lofty ambitions, the inaugural Green Apple Music & Arts Festival definitely has them.

So, it's finally, finally spring. All the usual signs are appearing-the attempted greening of campus, seniors drinking 40s on the steps, fake fashionistas running around in cowboy boots and peasant skirts.
