Scott Smith's The Ruins was a major best-seller this summer, exceeding even the high expectations set by his 1993 thriller A Simple Plan. Moreover, it has stayed on the charts, and its film rights have been optioned by Ben Stiller's production company, with Smith writing the screenplay.
