The University publicly launched its capital campaign Friday by asking for $4 billion from its alumni-the largest fund-raising goal in American university history.

What's in it for you?
Administrators say that all of the money raised for the capital campaign will fund projects and programs that will make Columbia better for students, and they stressed that no goal is more immediate and relevant than financial aid.

Columbia's administration, it seems, is finally taking undergraduate financial aid seriously. Their decision to replace loans with grants for lower-income families is a positive step, and will help these students manage Columbia's enormous tuition costs.

Every now and then I envy the man-slut. The boy who keeps handfuls of (potential) lovers on hand. Who convinces himself, true or not, that all these beautiful people want the same damn thing: him. Occasionally I envy the female slut, but less so, because I find her less believable.
